Accounting Major

Businesses need financial experts with excellent character, strong ethics and integrity, and superb accounting acumen. Courses in our accounting major curriculum will prepare you to successfully complete your Uniform Certified Public Accounting Exam (CPA® Exam), step directly into a career, or pursue your Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Your attention to detail and dedication to ethics will serve you well as an accounting major at WLC. As part of our liberal arts program, you’ll experience an accounting major designed to give you a well-rounded education rooted in Christian values. Professors in the program have real-world accounting experience in both public and corporate settings, bringing practical examples to the classroom.

Your core accounting courses will help you hone your skills in:

  • Analysis
  • Business administration
  • Communication
  • Critical thinking
  • Ethical decision making
  • Mathematics

These skills prepare majors for success in such fields as:

  • Accounting
  • Asset management
  • Auditing
  • Tax consulting
  • Wealth management
  • Other financial services

In fact, our graduates are so well prepared they are receiving national recognition - recently, the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) ranked WLC second in the state, fifth among small schools, and 19th in the nation for accounting students passing the CPA® Exam on their first attempt!

Our business graduates are highly sought after by major companies in the Milwaukee area, with many actively inquiring about our students prior to graduation. Within our programs you will have no trouble finding opportunities to interview for internships in large corporations, small businesses, or nonprofits. We have a positive reputation of providing interns who are hard working and excellent communicators. We enable you to activate your greatest potential.

Land a valuable internship

An internship may be your most valuable tool when seeking employment upon graduation and provides a smooth transition from being a student to a full-time professional. Our faculty helps students secure internships in which they learn more about their chosen career area, get valuable experience, and network with professionals. You'll be encouraged to pursue an internship prior to graduation.

Our students have interned at such respected firms as: Baker Tilly; SVA Professional Services; CliftonLarsonAllen LLP; U.S.Bank; and, Ernst & Young.

Our expert faculty know what they’re talking about because they’ve lived it

Within the School of Business at Wisconsin Lutheran College, you'll learn from business leaders who’ve worked at some of the largest and most prestigious companies on the Fortune 500 list, while gaining the skills and knowledge needed to apply critical thinking and analysis to business trends, organizations, and industries.

More importantly, our business faculty are Christian leaders, who have learned how to excel in the business world without compromising their faith or morals. They are not simply teaching you from a textbook. The stories and insights about how to succeed in business come from real-life experience. You get to inherit those insights directly from the source.

You’ll be set up to succeed. Class sizes are small, TAs are non-existent, and you won't find sprawling lecture halls here. WLC is a place where you develop personal relationships with not only your classmates but also your professors. They want you to succeed academically as well as grow spiritually in a safe, nurturing environment.
